Servus Halal, a subsidiary of Servus Credit Union, provides Albertans with a Shariah-compliant alternative to traditional mortgages. Through the Servus Halal Mortgage, a 25-year cost-plus-profit structure based on Islamic finance principles, homeowners enjoy predictable monthly payments and the confidence that comes with faith-aligned financing.
The Servus Halal initiative is the result of collaboration between Servus Credit Union, the Government of Alberta’s Treasury Board and Finance ministry, the Canadian Islamic Finance Board (CIFB) led by Al Rashid Mosque, and the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (CUDGC). Together, these partners combined expertise in regulation, legislation, community needs, and financial industry standards to ensure the mortgage is both ethical and secure.
