Governance

Democratic Leadership, Policy Oversight, and Stewardship

The Al Rashid Foundation of Canada is governed through a democratic and policy-driven governance model to ensure accountability, transparency, and long-term stewardship of the community’s institutions.

At the highest level, the Foundation is overseen by an elected Board of Directors, chosen by the membership of the Al Rashid Foundation of Canada (Formally known as Arabian Muslim Association AMA). This model reflects a deep commitment to community representation and collective responsibility, ensuring that leadership remains accountable to the people it serves.

The Role of the Board

The Board of Directors functions as a policy governance board. Its primary responsibility is to set strategic direction, establish governance policies, and provide oversight to ensure the organization remains aligned with its mission, values, and long-term vision.

Rather than managing day-to-day operations, the Board focuses on stewardship. It governs by defining outcomes, approving policies, ensuring financial accountability, and monitoring organizational performance. This approach allows the Foundation to operate with clarity and discipline, while enabling leadership and staff to carry out operations effectively.

As part of its mandate, the Board of Directors of the Al Rashid Foundation of Canada appoints and oversees the boards of each affiliated organization, ensuring alignment across institutions while respecting their individual roles and areas of service. Through this structure, the Foundation maintains cohesion, consistency, and shared accountability across the entire Al Rashid family of institutions.

Board of Directors

The Board is composed of volunteer leaders elected by the Foundation’s membership to serve the community with integrity, care, and responsibility. Together, they are entrusted with safeguarding the legacy built over generations and guiding the organization toward a sustainable future.

Accountability to the Community

Because the Board is elected by the membership, governance at the Al Rashid Foundation of Canada is rooted in accountability to the community itself. This model reinforces trust, transparency, and legitimacy, and ensures that major decisions reflect the collective interests of the community rather than any single institution or group.

The Board works to uphold strong governance practices, responsible financial oversight, and ethical decision-making. In doing so, it protects community assets, honors donor trust, and ensures that the Foundation and its affiliated organizations remain well-governed and future-focused.

Governing with Values

The Board’s work is guided by values that emphasize compassion, accountability, respect, and enterprise. These values inform how policies are shaped, how decisions are made, and how leadership is exercised across the organization.

Through a policy-based governance approach, the Al Rashid Foundation of Canada ensures that its institutions are not only effective today, but positioned to serve with strength, integrity, and relevance for generations to come.
