Edmonton Islamic Academy Elementary Campus

New Elementary Campus

An Al Rashid Community Initiative

Building the Future of Faith-Based Education in Edmonton

The Edmonton Islamic Academy (EIA) is expanding to meet the growing needs of Muslim families in Edmonton through the development of a new elementary school campus. Rooted in faith, excellence, and community, this project represents a landmark investment in Islamic education, designed not only to serve today’s students, but to build a strong foundation for generations to come.

Why This Project Matters

Edmonton is home to one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most vibrant Muslim communities. As families continue to seek high-quality education that nurtures both academic success and Islamic identity, demand at the Edmonton Islamic Academy has far exceeded capacity.

Today, more than 1,500 students remain on waitlists, with many families waiting years for placement. The need for expanded elementary education has never been more urgent.

The New Elementary Campus responds directly to this reality, ensuring more children can access an education that strengthens faith, character, confidence, and belonging while meeting the highest academic standards.

A Vision Rooted in Faith and Excellence

The Edmonton Islamic Academy has always been guided by a simple yet powerful vision: to educate students who are confident in their faith, grounded in strong values, and prepared to contribute meaningfully to the wider world. The New Elementary Campus advances this vision by intentionally integrating:
  • Academic excellence
  • Islamic values and ethics
  • Character and identity formation
  • Community connection
This is not simply a school expansion, it is a long-term investment in community infrastructure, leadership development, and the future of Muslim life in Canada.

Project Overview

  • Project Value: $80 million investment in faith-based education
  • Grades Served: Kindergarten to Grade 6
  • Student Capacity: Over 1,600 students
  • Location: Near the current EIA campus in northwest Edmonton
  • Purpose: To meet growing demand while supporting sustainable community growth

Once completed, the New Elementary Campus will significantly reduce waitlists and ensure families have access to a nurturing, values-based educational environment.

A Campus Designed for Learning, Faith, and Belonging

Every aspect of the new campus has been intentionally designed to support students academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

Learning Environments

  • Modern classrooms designed for literacy, numeracy, and STEM excellence
  • Grade-specific learning communities that support child development at every stage
  • Dedicated learning resource centres that encourage curiosity and collaboration

Faith-Centered Spaces

  • Purpose-built prayer rooms and wudu areas integrated into daily school life
  • Islamic and Arabic learning spaces that nurture identity and language
  • Thoughtful orientation toward the Qiblah

Growth Beyond the Classroom

  • Gymnasiums, playgrounds, and outdoor fields that support physical development and play
  • Spaces that encourage social connection, creativity, and emotional well-being

The result is a campus where faith and learning are not separate—but seamlessly woven into everyday experience.

Architecture that Reflects Identity and Purpose

The architectural vision for the New Elementary Campus blends classic Islamic design principles with modern educational functionality.

Elements such as geometric patterns, natural light, landscaped gardens, and culturally inspired details create an environment that feels both inspiring and familiar, one that reinforces a sense of belonging and pride.

This campus is designed to feel like more than a school. It is a home rooted in faith, dignity, and purpose.

A Legacy of Educational Leadership

The Edmonton Islamic Academy’s story is deeply rooted in the history of Muslim education in Alberta.

Founded in 1987 in the basement of the original Al Rashid Mosque, EIA began as a small community effort driven by faith and determination. Over the decades, it has grown into one of Canada’s largest and most respected Islamic schools, now serving over 1,800 students from Preschool to Grade 12.

The New Elementary Campus continues this legacy, honouring the vision of early pioneers while responding to the needs of today’s families and tomorrow’s leaders.

Community-Led. Community-Built.

This project is a testament to the strength, generosity, and unity of the Edmonton Muslim community.

Through collective support, tens of millions of dollars have already been raised, allowing construction to move forward. Parents, donors, volunteers, and community leaders have all played a role in advancing this vision.

As construction continues, ongoing community support remains essential to completing the project in a way that aligns with Islamic values and long-term sustainability.

Community-Led. Community-Built.

Supporting Islamic education is an ongoing charity, one whose impact continues long after the initial contribution.

Every classroom built, every student educated, and every value instilled becomes a source of lasting reward. By supporting the New Elementary Campus, donors participate in a Sadaqah Jariyah that benefits generations of students, families, and the broader community.
