Helping Hands Ladies Society

Faith in Action. Service in Community.

The Helping Hands Ladies Society is a long-standing volunteer organization rooted at Al Rashid Mosque and guided by the leadership of Muslim women, many of whom have served their community for decades. Grounded in Islamic values and a deep ethic of care, the Society has played a quiet yet powerful role in shaping the social and cultural fabric of Edmonton.

Led primarily by senior women, the Helping Hands Ladies Society reflects a model of service built on consistency, compassion, and presence. Their work is not defined by short-term programs, but by relationships, showing up for individuals and families across generations, and responding where support is needed most.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Helping Hands Ladies Society is to serve the community through faith-informed compassion, advocacy, and care. The Society focuses on supporting women, seniors, newcomers, families, and neighbours, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, through acts of service that promote dignity, connection, and well-being.

This work is rooted in the belief that faith is lived through action, and that communities are strengthened when care is offered generously and consistently, especially to those who may feel isolated or vulnerable.

A Legacy of Service and Leadership

For decades, the Helping Hands Ladies Society has contributed to Edmonton through volunteerism, fundraising, outreach, and cultural engagement. Their work spans religious support, humanitarian assistance, advocacy, and community-building, often carried out quietly, without recognition, but with lasting impact.

In recognition of this legacy, the Society has been formally acknowledged as a recipient of the Northern Lights award for its advocacy, religious service, cultural outreach, and humanitarian support, reflecting the meaningful role it has played across the region.

The Society continues to support a broad and diverse network of community members connected to Al Rashid Mosque and beyond.

Who the Society Supports

The Helping Hands Ladies Society supports individuals and families across many walks of life, including seniors and retirees, women and mothers, youth and newcomers to Canada, local families from diverse backgrounds, and neighbours seeking connection or support.
Through volunteer service and outreach, the Society creates spaces of companionship, guidance, and care, ensuring that no one feels alone or forgotten within the community.

Their work reminds us that lasting impact is often created not through formal programs, but through presence, care, and showing up for one another, again and again.
