Empowering Youth to Lead, Belong, and Serve

Established in 1982, the Al Rashid Youth Club (RYC) has been a cornerstone of youth engagement within the Al Rashid community for more than four decades. RYC exists to support young people as they grow into confident, compassionate, and community-minded individuals, grounded in faith, guided by purpose, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to society.
RYC offers a welcoming and inclusive space where youth from diverse backgrounds can connect, build skills, and discover their potential. Many of our members are newcomers to Canada, navigating new cultures, systems, and identities. Through supportive programming and mentorship, the Youth Club helps young people develop a strong sense of belonging while learning how to engage confidently in their community.

Our Mandate

The mandate of the Al Rashid Youth Club is to empower youth to reach new heights as leaders, changemakers, and active participants in community life. Through dynamic, engaging, and inclusive programs, RYC creates opportunities for youth to learn, lead, and serve.
Our work is rooted in the belief that when young people are given meaningful responsibility, guidance, and space to grow, they develop the confidence and skills needed to create positive and lasting change. By nurturing leadership, teamwork, and civic responsibility, RYC contributes to building strong, connected communities today and into the future.

A Space for Growth and Belonging

RYC brings together youth from many regions of the world, reflecting the diversity of Edmonton’s Muslim community. The Youth Club provides a safe and welcoming environment where young people can form friendships, explore their identities, and engage with others who share similar values.
Participation in youth programming supports the development of well-rounded individuals by strengthening communication, collaboration, and self-confidence. Through shared experiences, whether in learning, service, or recreation, youth discover their strengths and learn how to work together with respect and purpose.

Programs and Activities

The Al Rashid Youth Club offers a wide range of programs designed to support personal development, leadership, and community connection. These programs evolve in response to youth interests and community needs, ensuring relevance and engagement.
RYC programming includes educational initiatives, skill-building workshops, sports and recreational activities, social gatherings, and community service projects. Each activity is designed to encourage participation, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility to others.
By creating opportunities for youth to contribute through service and leadership, RYC helps young people understand the impact they can have—both within their community and beyond it.

Youth Voice and Leadership

A defining feature of the Al Rashid Youth Club is its commitment to youth voice. Young people are encouraged to share ideas, help shape programs, and participate in decision-making related to youth initiatives within the mosque and the broader organization.
This approach empowers youth to take ownership of their community. Through mentorship from caring community leaders and peers, youth learn that their perspectives matter and that they have the ability to lead with confidence and integrity.
